Softball tourney recap from the Mitchell Republic online. With 5-0 record, Castlewood claims Avon Invitational softball tournament title Scotland/Menno reached the title round with three victories. By Mitchell Republic Today at 12:13 PM AVON, S.D. — Castlewood won five times on Saturday to claim the Avon Invitational high school softball title, capped with an 8-3 win over Scotland/Menno in the championship round. The Warriors improved to 6-1 on the season, powered by a five-run second inning to claim the seven-team tournament title. Scotland/Menno’s Kylie Guthmiller was 3-for-3 at the plate and added a solo home run for her second home run in as many tournament games. But Cydni Kudrna had a two-run home run in the second inning as part of a five-run frame for the Warriors. Claire Horn earned the pitching win for Castlewood, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out 10 batters in five innings. Guthmiller took the loss for Scotland/Menno, allowing eight runs on nine hits and striking out six in five innings of work. Bailey Neuharth had two stolen bases for the Trappers. Scotland/Menno (5-3) is back in action hosting Avon on Monday in Scotland. The Trappers reached the championship with a 5-0 win over Hanson in the semifinals, powered by a home run and four RBIs from Guthmiller, who also picked up the pitching victory. Castlewood defeated Avon in the semifinal round 14-0. The Warriors also had a 13-2 win over Wagner, a 16-5 win over Hanson and a 10-1 win over Ethan/Parkston in the earlier rounds of the tournament. Avon (5-2) finished 3-1 in its home tournament, with two wins over Winner (21-1 and 17-1) and a 15-0 win over Wagner.

The students witnessed a mock car crash at the football field complex this afternoon. Thank you to the Menno Police, Menno EMT's, Menno Fire Dept, Hutchinson County Sheriff Dept, and Avera Hospital helicopter for putting this on for the kids.

Softball game report from the Yankton P&D online. 🥎 Bon Homme 13, Scotland-Menno 6 SCOTLAND — Bon Homme rallied from an early 5-0 deficit to claim a 13-6 victory over Scotland-Menno in high school softball action on Monday in Scotland. Olivia Kaul went 4-for-5 with a home run, a triple, six RBIs and four runs scored for Bon Homme. Reyna Alberts had two hits. Taycee Ranek tripled, Jersie Schonebaum doubled, and Chloey Sedlacek, Alexis Tjeerdsma and Maddie Einrem each had a hit in the victory. Kadence Bierle had two of Scotland’s three hits. Ervin Schrock added a hit. Kaul struck out 12 in the win. Kylie Guthmiller took the loss, also striking out 12. Bon Homme, 1-1, travels to Chamberlain for a triangular with the Cubs and Ethan-Parkston on Thursday. Scotland-Menno, 2-2, plays in the Avon Tournament on Saturday.

Schedule updates: Baseball for today has been postponed to April 12. Varsity DH games at Scotland vs Wagner starting at 3:00 pm No track meet tomorrow at Scotland. The meet will be held on Thursday. No MS meet. The softball games will be played today at Scotland 4:30.

The Trapper Baseball Team heads to Wagner today to play the Raiders! Varsity will start at 5:30pm and JV will follow. Good luck today!
