Menno School breakfast breaks a record! 107 students (and teachers!)

Today we will be hosting the Erv Ptak Relays. For some of you that didn't know Erv or the Ptak family. Here is a bit of info.
The Erv Ptak Relays are named in memory of Ervin Ptak, a long time educator who dedicated 36 years to education. Thirty five of those years were in Menno.
Erv was born January 2, 1939. He graduated from Tabor High School in 1956. Erv was a talented athlete in several sports in high school and college. He received his undergraduate degree from USD/S at Springfield in 1960 and his graduate degree at USD in Vermillion in 1967. Erv began teaching in Menno in 1961 as a business instructor and coach. He coached all sports during his career. He served as the junior and senior high principal for 24 years as well as athletic director. Erv and his wife Jean served the Menno Public School for a combined total of 66 years.
Although he accomplished many things during his life, Erv was never one to boast. Few people may know that he was the nation’s leading scorer in 6-man football when he was sixteen years old, or that he scored 50 points in a football game, or that he scored 44 points in a basketball game. During his coaching career, he was successful in developing his famous razzle-dazzle plays.
Erv died July 8, 2012 at age 73 from a long battle with cancer. Erv is survived by his wife Jean and children Dan, Sally, Gary, and Kevin Ptak and their families.
Careers class took a field trip to Vermeer in Freeman. They did a great job of showing what opportunities they have to offer for employment!
