Today, the middle school students went to Freeman Academy for the Indigenous Peoples' Celebration. The students were able to see Native American dances and music by the Dakota Dance Club and listen to Secretary Flute, SD Office of Tribal Relations, explain about the culture.

CONGRATULATIONS to our Girls Cross Country team, as they took 2nd place at the Region 3B meet today! Zoe placed 7th, Ellyana 8th, and Nora 21st! With the runner-up finish, the entire team qualifies for the State B Meet in Rapid City on October 26th. Way to go girls! #howlwolves

The girls placed second as a team in region 3B. The wolves were lead by Zoe 7th, Ellyana 8th, Nora 21st, Savanah 24th and Briley 30th. The wolves get to run as a team next week at the state meet!

VB report from the Yankton Press and Dakotan online. Freeman 3, Menno 1 MENNO — Freeman upended Menno 25-20, 25-22, 13-25, 25-23 in Cornbelt Conference volleyball action on Monday. Rylee Peters finished with eight kills and 21 digs, and Cadence Hofer had eight kills and two blocks for Freeman. Vaida Ammann posted 24 assists, 21 digs, two blocks and five ace serves. Emily Mendel had 21 digs and Karie Ortman added 16 digs in the victory. Lexie McNinch finished with 15 kills and three blocks for Menno. Amanda Rames posted six kills and six blocks. Joslynn Fischer finished with 19 assists and two ace serves. Nora Robb posted nine assists, 11 digs, three blocks and two ace serves. Ellyanna Ulmer had 37 digs, Taylor Freier posted 22 digs and Haylee Hall added 18 digs in the effort. Freeman, 6-14, hosts Oldham-Ramona-Rutland today (Tuesday). Menno, 14-9, travels to Alexandria to face Hanson today. Freeman won the JV match 25-20, 25-14. The ‘C’ match was split, with Menno winning the first set 25-20 and Freeman claiming the second set 25-21.

Volleyball vs Freeman
The Menno Band placed 4th out of 6 bands in Class B Street Show today at the March to The Meridian parade competition in Yankton. The students put a lot into their final performance of the season and had a strong finish. The Menno Band and Choir will be performing at their Pops Concert next Thursday, Oct. 17th at 7:30pm in the old gym.

Football game report from the Yankton P&D. Avon 58, Scotland/Menno 20 AVON — It was the Aziah Meyer Show for Avon, which cruised to a big nine-man football victory over Scotland/Menno on Friday night. Meyer was unstoppable as he ran for 383 yards and seven touchdowns. He accomplished this on only 13 carries and averaged nearly 29.5 yards per carry. He was the centerpiece for the Pirates’ 519 total yards of offense. The Pirates trailed at multiple points through the game including 20-16 in the second quarter. But that was the last time Trappers led in the matchup. From that point on, the Pirates scored 42 straight points en route to what ended up being a lopsided victory. Outside of Meyer, Easton Sees finished with one pass completion for 39 yards that also went for a touchdown. Landon Mudder finished the night with 59 rushing yards. For Scotland/Menno, Izayah Ulmer finished the night with 159 passing yards and three touchdowns on 12-for-17 attempts. Trent Guthmiller finished with a team-high 63 rushing yards. Avon (7-0) will play Oct. 18 against an opponent to be determined, while Scotland/Menno (2-5) will also play against an opponent to be determined.

Maia Achen finished with 13 kills, 13 digs and two ace serves for Gayville-Volin (22-4). Paisley Dimmer posted 11 kills. Aliza Westrum had 10 kills. Britton Scheetz finished with 27 assists and 11 digs. Taylor Hoxeng posted 17 digs and two ace serves. Jolie Westrum had 15 digs and Ayla Dimmer added two ace serves in the victory. Haylee Hall led Menno with four kills and 12 digs. Joslynn Fischer had seven assists and four ace serves. Ellyana Ulmer had 13 digs and Taylor Freier added 12 digs for the Wolves.
