Mount Vernon-Plankinton 55, Scotland-Menno 14
SCOTLAND – Mount Vernon-Plankinton used a 29-6 first quarter to get lead on the way to a 55-14 victory over the Scotland-Menno Trappers in high school football on Friday evening.
MV-P scored the first 21 points in the contest to take a quick lead.
Logan Sayler scored the first touchdown for Scotland-Menno, getting a 75-yard kickoff return to cut the lead to 21-6.
Nobody was able to score in the second quarter, but the Titans came out of halftime in a dominant fashion, scoring three more times. One of the touchdowns came from a 30-yard interception.
Trent Guthmiller scored the final touchdown for the Trappers, getting to the end zone on a one-yard run. The Trappers had their second failed two-point conversion of the night following a touchdown.
The final score of the night happened in the fourth quarter, with MVP rushing 13-yards for the touchdown. Their two-point conversion also failed, bringing the final score to 55-12.
For Scotland-Menno, Guthmiller rushed the ball six times for 41 yards and a touchdown and Jayce Walloch had one reception for nine yards. Defensively, Walloch and Tate Plooster led with four solo tackles.
MVP was led by Zach Baker’s 41-yards on six rushing attempts and two solo tackles.
Scotland-Menno’s record moves to 0-4 and will host Baltic on Friday for their next game.
Mount Vernon-Plankinton’s record improves to 3-1, with their next game being on Saturday against Rapid City Christian.

SCOTLAND, S.D. — Mount Vernon/Plankinton rushed for 338 yards and picked up 20 first downs for a road win at Scotland/Menno on Friday night.
Brady Fox scored the first three touchdowns of the night on scoring runs for the Titans, and Isaiah Olson had a short touchdown run for MVP to hold a 30-6 halftime lead. Overall, MVP outgained Scotland/Menno 367-96.
For the Trappers, Logan Sayler scored on a 75-yard kickoff return and Trent Guthmiller had a 1-yard touchdown run.
MVP (3-1) will host Rapid City Christian on Saturday, Sept. 16 in Mount Vernon, while Scotland/Menno (0-4) will host Baltic in Menno on Sept. 15.
There will be a tailgate supper at Baker Field in Scotland prior to the start of the Scotland/Menno Trappers and MV/P football game on Friday, Sept. 8. Burgers and water will be ready from 6-7 pm in front of the stadium. Free will donation for Trapper Football.

Ethan 3, Menno 0
MENNO – Two Ethan players were able to collect double-doubles in their 25-21, 25-16, 25-12 win over Menno in girls’ high school volleyball action on Thursday.
For Ethan, Ava Lingemann had 22 kills and 16 digs and Maddy Bartseher had 32 assists and 11 digs. Claire Mellegaard led the team in digs, getting 25 in the match.
Menno’s Joslynn Fischer picked up a double-double in the contest as well, getting 16 assists and digs. Ashton Massey had seven kills on the night and was followed by Amanda Rames, who had four.
Ethan’s record moves to 5-4, with the team playing again on Tuesday at Madison.
Menno’s record is 2-6 now, and the team will play again on Tuesday at Howard.
Ethan’s JV team beat Menno in a close game, winning 25-23, 25-23.

Placers from Wednesday's meet at Freeman Academy are: Ashton (2nd), Zoe (14th) and Erick (14th) in varsity. Junior high placers are: Savanah (2nd), Hannah (3rd), Ivana (4th), Leah (7th), Emma (8th) and Briley (9th).
Varsity VB was defeated by the Ethan Rustlers at home tonight.
JV team lost two close ones tonight 23-25. Keep working hard ladies.
