Seniors and Parents: To prepare for FAFSA night you must do the following at least 3 days BEFORE our January 15th meeting.
• Set up a StudentAid.gov account, which is also known as creating an FSA ID (username and password). Dependent students and at least one parent will each need a StudentAid.gov account to complete the FAFSA.
• Determine which parent or parents to invite to the FAFSA. With the introduction of the new FASFA last year, the process of knowing which parent will contribute information to the FAFSA changed and became a little more complicated. Students can use the parent wizard now available on the StudentAid.gov website to determine which parent or parents to invite. It’s good to have that figured out before completing the FAFSA.
• Gather financial records, such as your 2023 tax return and records of assets. Although the Department of Education will pull income information from the IRS, there are a few other financial questions that need to be completed manually and sometimes the income tax information cannot be pulled from the IRS – such as in cases of identity theft. In those cases, the student or parent will need to provide income information manually.
FAFSA night for Seniors and Parents will be January 15 from 5-6pm in the Menno Computer Lab. Please enter the north office door to the school. Bring a charged-up laptop with you. Scotland Seniors and their parents will be joining us as well. Please let Mrs. Fischer know if you will be attending so she can plan accordingly. Thank you!
